A romantic valley with sandstone rocks and a stream. A quiet walk in nature, well suited to families with children.

A hidden gem few people know

Pavlínino údolí (Pauline's Valley) is one of those places in Bohemian Switzerland that the crowds have not yet filled. The narrow valley winds between sandstone rocks, a stream with crystal-clear water runs along its floor and the air smells of resin and damp moss. It is a place for anyone looking for quiet, romance and genuine contact with wild nature. The path is easy and suitable for families with small children or for seniors — no steep climbs, just a comfortable walk through the countryside.

Rock overhangs, caves and strange formations

Along the route you come across impressive rock overhangs, under which the early inhabitants of the region already sheltered from the rain. Small caves and alcoves in the rocks invite exploring — children love them. The sandstone formations have incredible shapes modelled by thousands of years of erosion. Some resemble giant mushrooms, others animal heads or gothic arches. Every bend brings a new and surprising view.

Four seasons, four faces of the valley

In spring the valley comes alive with the first flowers and the stream fills with meltwater — the cascades are at their strongest then. In summer the valley is pleasantly cool and shaded, an ideal refuge from the heat when temperatures elsewhere climb above thirty. Autumn is the most beautiful season here — the broadleaf trees burn with gold, orange and red, and the morning mist lends the valley a mystical atmosphere. In winter, when hoarfrost covers the rocks and icicles line the stream, the valley looks like something from a fairy tale.

How to get there and what to bring

You reach Pavlínino údolí from Jetřichovice along the green waymarked trail. The whole trip there and back takes 2 to 3 hours depending on your pace and how often you stop to take photographs. We recommend bringing a picnic — there are several lovely spots by the stream in the valley where you can spread out a blanket and enjoy lunch in complete peace. In summer bring water shoes for the children; wading in the stream is fun for the whole family. The valley is open all year round, free of charge, and it is never crowded — one of those places where you can enjoy nature without the crowds.
