A viewpoint with a sweeping panorama of the surrounding landscape. The metal viewing platform offers a 360° view of the rock towns and forests of Bohemian Switzerland.
A viewpoint that takes your breath away
Mariina vyhlídka (Mary's Viewpoint) is a metal platform bolted to the very top of a slender rock pillar. When you climb onto it, a complete 360° panorama of Bohemian Switzerland opens up — rock towns, deep wooded valleys, distant table mountains and, in good visibility, the silhouette of Děčínský Sněžník. It is one of the few places where you really see the whole region laid out before you. The sense of freedom and height here is quite intoxicating.
The finest light at sunrise
Photographers and romantics come here at sunrise, when the first rays gild the rock towers and mist rises from the valley like a giant white carpet. It is one of those moments worth getting up at four in the morning for. But the colours at sunset are just as lovely — warm orange and pink tones turn the sandstone rocks into a backdrop that looks almost unreal. During the day the view is impressive too, of course, just without that dramatic atmosphere.
The route from Jetřichovice along the blue waymarks
You reach the viewpoint from Jetřichovice along the blue waymarked trail. The path leads through beautiful mixed forest that smells of resin in summer and rustles with leaves underfoot in autumn. The last stretch involves climbing metal steps and ladders set into the rock — that is the most adventurous part. The climb is technically safe, but it takes a little courage and is not suitable for anyone who suffers from vertigo. The whole route there and back takes about 2 hours at an easy pace.
Combine it with the loop around Jetřichovice
Mariina vyhlídka is part of the well-known loop around Jetřichovice, which also takes in Vilemínina stěna and Rudolfův kámen. If you have the time, we recommend walking the whole loop — each viewpoint offers a different angle on the landscape and the experience multiplies. From Jetřichovice set off along the blue waymarks to Mariina vyhlídka, then along the green to Vilemínina stěna and back via Rudolfův kámen. Allow 3 to 4 hours and do not forget a snack — there are no stalls in the forest, just clean air and quiet. Back in Jetřichovice you will have earned a proper lunch in one of the local pubs.
