The sandstone towers of Bohemian Switzerland are among the finest climbing terrain in Central Europe. The local climbing tradition goes back to the 19th century.
Climbing areas
The Kunratice rocks, with dozens of routes of varying difficulty, lie right next to the cottages. Other popular areas are the Jetřichovice rocks, Tisá and the rock area near Ostrov. Altogether the region offers thousands of climbing routes on sandstone towers.
Rules of sandstone climbing
Bohemian Switzerland has its own specific rules for sandstone climbing — chalk and metal protection (cams, nuts) are not allowed. Climbers use textile slings only. After rain you have to wait until the rock dries out, otherwise the soft sandstone can be damaged.
