Bohemian Switzerland is every photographer's dream. Rock towns, misty valleys, dramatic viewpoints and changing light offer endless chances to capture the perfect shot.
The most photogenic spots
Among the finest photographic spots are Pravčická brána (Pravčice Gate) in the morning light, Mariina skála at sunset and the Jetřichovice rocks wrapped in mist. Vilemínina stěna offers a panoramic view over the whole rock town and is ideal for landscape shots. The gorges of the Kamenice with their clear water and green mosses are a paradise for close-up shots.
When to shoot
The best light comes at sunrise and sunset, when the rock towers cast long shadows and the sandstone faces take on warm tones. Autumn brings colourful leaves and morning mists that create a magical atmosphere — October and November are the absolute peak for photographers. Winter inversions then offer the sight of rock towers rising from a sea of clouds.
Practical advice for photographers
Head up to the rock viewpoints before dawn — you will have the place to yourself and the best light. A tripod is essential for morning and evening shots. Expect rapid changes in the weather — keep rain protection at hand for yourself and your gear. A polarising filter will bring out the colours of the leaves and cut reflections off wet rock.
