The forests of Bohemian Switzerland are a mushroom picker's paradise. From summer to autumn you will find porcini, chanterelles, birch boletes and rarer species too.
Where to pick
The surrounding mixed and coniferous forests offer ideal conditions for mushrooms. The best spots are around Jetřichovice, on the slopes of Děčínský Sněžník and in the woods between Doubice and Krásná Lípa. Penny buns and dark ceps appear from June, chanterelles from July, and the real mushroom boom comes in September and October after heavier rain.
What you will find in the forest
The most common species are the penny bun, the dark cep, the orange aspen bolete, the chanterelle and the birch bolete. In coniferous forests on acidic soils you will find plenty of slippery jacks and bay boletes. More experienced pickers may also come across field mushrooms, knights or parasol mushrooms on the edges of meadows and clearings. Only ever pick mushrooms you can identify with certainty.

Practical tips
- check_circle The best mushroom season is September and October, ideally 2–3 days after rain at temperatures around 15 °C.
- check_circle In the national park, picking is allowed only in marked zones — check with the park administration in advance.
- check_circle Take a wicker basket instead of a plastic bag — the mushrooms stay fresher and you spread the spores as you go.
